VOLODYMIR KRAINEV INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR YOUNG PIANISTS

The first Volodymir Krainev International Competition for Young Pianists took place in March 1992 in Kharkiv. It was initiated by pedagogical collective of Children Musical School and the People's Artist of USSR, Professor of Moscow Conservatory and Higher School of Music and Theatre in Hanover, prize winner of international competitions Volodymyr Krainev (whose childhood passed in Kharkiv) supported its creation with enthusiasm.

90 young musicians from 12 countries took part in the first Competition. Organization committee made a decision to hold the competition biennially in Kharkiv in the last ten days of March. Six competitions were held; victory in the competitions became a beginning of successful career for many young musicians.

An important event in the life of the competition happened in 1997. The Competition entered into European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY) and gradually has become a famous one among creative youth.
