THE ALL-UKRAINIAN COMPETITION FOR PIANISTS IN MEMORY OF HENRY NEIGAUZ

The Competition in Memory of Henry Neigauz was created in 1988 by the Ministry of Culture and Arts of Ukraine and Administration of Culture of Kirovograd Executive Committee on the occasion of 100th anniversary of Henry Neigauz, outstanding pianist and teacher, native of Yelisavetgrad.

In jubilee celebrations famous musicians, Neigauz' pupils (Y.Malinin, A.Vedernikov, L.Ginzburg, A.Lysenko) and also M.Neigauz, O.Levtonova. In 1988 Neigauz' students - S.Richter, O.Nasedkin, V.Gornostaeva, M.Fedorova and others - performed in Kirovograd. Thanks to this it was succeeded to joining the Competition for Young Pianists with a whole series of different events such as concerts, meetings, and open lessons. This way the conception of the Festival "Neiguz' musical meetings" was created. The Festival became traditional.

Since 1988 in the framework of the festival a competition of students of Special Piano Departments of Musical Colleges of Ukraine has been held every two year; since 1998 students of 9-11 forms of special music schools have taken part in the Competition.
